Beginning in the autumn of 2002, Carlos Barrios traveled north from his home in Guatemala to the eastern sector of Four Corners. In Santa Fe, NM, on the tail of the range of the Rocky Mountains, Barrios spoke in a manner known about the Mayan tradition and legendary Mayan calendars.
The Mayan calendars are the subject of intense interest to many thousands of people, because they focus on the source of the date December 21 2012. Everything changes by then, they say.
With a cultural heritage including thousands of pyramids and temples, and a calendar that has proven to be astronomically accurate over millions of years, the Maya tradition is widely regarded as a mystical key to the soul of Turtle Island (North America).
In public lectures and in private interviews, Barrios began his report of the history and future of the Americas, and the larger world, based on their understanding of the Mayan tradition as both an anthropologist and an initiate. He also talked about the path he sees ahead from now to the Winter Solstice of 2012.
The range of teachings and insights offered by Neighborhood should be considered in the context of realpolitik in his American home. The Maya of Guatemala, their pyramids, and its timing have not survived in a new-era Shambhala of love and light, but in an environment of treachery, beatings, torture, rapes, and massacres.
For 30 years, government-supported Guatemalan rightists both publicly and secretly by the U.S. government, launched a terrorist war against the people of the country, killing over 200,000 citizens, many of them indigenous Mayans. When the war finally fell in the nineties, the Truth Commission issued a United Nations investigation of 18 months. * The UN found massive violations of human rights by the government of Guatemala with the complicity of the U.S. government. The UN report stated that acts of violence "aggressive, racist and extremely cruel" descended to the level of genocide directed against the indigenous Mayan population of the country.
When Amnesty International studied the Guatemalan situation in recent years, they reached a remarkable conclusion. They wrote that real peace could only be reached only by confronting the "mafia state Corporate" of Guatemala .*
They described this as a corporate mafia state "unholy alliance" of certain national and international economic actors to work with the areas of police and military and common criminals to control the industries "black" as drugs, arms trafficking, money laundering money, the chain of automobile theft, illegal adoptions, and kidnapping for ransom.
The great dark shadow that has hung over the southern part of the island of Tortuga, Barrios observes: "These injustices began five years ago and continues today in all the Americas. The Indians Wars have never ended ... I think that holders of power in the developed world see it as a requirement to destroy indigenous peoples, or at least destroy their culture, because they are not "consumers." The American Dream is built on the backs of the Third World ... But that is a false distinction because there is no Third World. There is only one world. We are all part of this unique world, and all deserve due respect. "
While Guatemala has ostensibly been at peace for the past eight years, is a disturbed peace. The war continues to have a negligible impact on the people. The human rights violations still occur regularly, and even the defenders of international human rights have been under threat.
Nevertheless, in view of the neighborhood that grew during the war, there have been improvements.
There is no guerrilla army, and police and army are more decent, more respectful, "he said." Because there is more human respect now, we can try to find a new life. "
One possible consequence of long-enduring climate of terror in Guatemala, has been mistrust and criticism. From this few are immune. The accusations are often attributed to people who intend to speak of the Mayan traditions. Districts involved in this matrix of uncertainty. He criticizes others, and he criticizes. He has become a figure of controversy for some traditional Mayan elders.
Carlos Barrios was born into a white family in the highlands of Guatemala. His home was in Huehuetenango, also the place of settlement of the Maya Mam tribe. With other Maya and other indigenous tradition keepers, the Mam carry part of the old ways on Turtle Island (North America). They are custodians of the time, authorities on remarkable calendars that are ancient, elegant and relevant.
Barrios is a historian, anthropologist and researcher. After studying with traditional elders for 25 years from the age of 19, he has also become a Ajq'ij Mayan ceremonial priest and spiritual guide of the Eagle Clan.
Years ago, along with his brother, Gerardo, Carlos initiated a research into the different Mayan calendars. He studied with many teachers. He says his brother Gerardo interviewed nearly 600 traditional Mayan elders to widen their scope of knowledge. "Anthropologists visit the temple sites," says Barrios, "and read the steles and inscriptions and elaborate stories about the Maya, but they do not read the signals correctly. It's just their imagination ... Other people write on the prophecies of behalf of the Maya. They say the world will end in December 2012. The Mayan elders are angry with this. The world will not end. transformed. The indigenous have the calendars, and know how to interpret them accurately, no other "
Mayan understanding of time, seasons, and cycles has proven to be vast and sophisticated. The Maya understood 17 different calendars, some of them to chart the precise time for more than ten million years.
The schedule has drawn global attention since 1987, strongly called Tzolk'in or Cholq'ij. Invented ages ago and based on the cycle of the Pleiades, is still sacred.
With the indigenous calendars, native people have kept track of which become milestones in the history. For example, the counters of days studying the calendars identified an important day in the year One Caña, Ce Acatal as he was called by the Mexican. That was the day when an important ancestor was prophesied to return, "coming like a butterfly."
In the Western calendar, the date is correlated with Cane One Easter Sunday on April 21 of 1519-the day that Hernando Cortez and his fleet of 11 Spanish galleons arrived from the East to what is today called Vera Cruz, Mexico. When the Spanish ships came toward shore, the natives were waiting and watching to see what would happen. The sails of the ships undulating reminded explorers of butterflies fluttering in the ocean surface. In this way began a new era, an era they had anticipated through their calendars. The Maya termed the new era Bolomtikus Nine or Nine cycle of 52 years each. When the new cycle began, took his land and freedom of the Indians. Disease and disrespect dominated.
What began with the arrival of Cortez, lasted until August 16, 1987, a date many people recall as Harmonic Convergence. Millions of people took advantage of that date to make ceremony in sacred sites, praying for a smooth transition to a new era, the world of the Fifth Sun
From that 1987 date until now, Barrios said, we have been in a time when the right arm of the materialistic world is disappearing, slowly but inexorably. We are on the cusp of the era when peace begins, and people live in harmony with Mother Earth. We no longer in the world of the Fourth Sun, but neither are in the world of the sun This is the fifth time in half the time of transition.
When we cross the transition to convergence is a colossal, global environmental destruction, social chaos, war, landmines and continuing changes. All this, says Barrios, previous track is simple, spiral mathematics of the Mayan calendars.
"Change," says Barrios. "Everything will change." He said that accountants see Maya on the date of December 21, 2012 as a rebirth, the start of the World's Fifth Sun will be the beginning of a new era that is meant to-and-by the solar meridian crossing the ecuador Galactic, and the earth aligning with the center of the galaxy.
At dawn on December 21, 2012 for the first time in 26.000 years, the Sun is in conjunction with the intersection of the Milky Way and the plane of the ecliptic, describing in the sky a great cross of stars and planets. It is believed that this cross is a cosmic embodiment of the Sacred Tree, The Tree of Life, a tree remembered in spiritual traditions around the world.
Some observers say this alignment with the heart of the galaxy in 2012 will open a channel for cosmic energy to flow through the soil, cleaning and all the peoples and bring them all to a higher level of vibration. This process has already begun, Barrios suggested. Change is accelerating now, and will continue to accelerate. "
If the people of the land can come to this 2012 date in good shape, without having destroyed too Earth, Barrios said, we arrive at a new and higher level. But to get there we must transform enormously powerful forces that seek to block the road.
Their understanding of the Mayan tradition and the calendars, Barrios offered a picture where we are and what may be the way forward:
The date specified in the schedule, the Winter Solstice in 2012, does not mark the end of the world. Many outsiders who write about the Maya calendar sensacionalizan this date, but they do not know. Those who know are the indigenous elders who are entrusted with the keeping the tradition.
"Humanity will continue," he says, "but in a different way. The material structures will change. From this we have a chance to be more human." We are living in the era's most important Mayan calendars and prophecies. All the prophecies of the world, all the traditions, are converging now. No time for games. The spiritual ideal of this era is action.
Many powerful souls have reincarnated in this era, with much power. This is true on both sides, light and darkness. The magic is working on both sides.
Things will change, but depends on the people who are difficult or easy changes that will occur.
When he met with the public in Santa Fe, Barrios told a story about the most recent Mayan New Year ceremonies in Guatemala. He said that one respected Mam elder who lives all year in a solitary mountain cave went to Chichicastenango to speak with people at the ceremony.
The elder delivered a simple message, direct. He called the people to come together in support of life and light. Right now each person and each group go their own way. The elder of the mountains said there is hope if people can get together the light somehow.
Reflecting on this, Barrios explained: "We live in a world of polarity: day and night, man and woman, positive and negative. The light and darkness are required. They are a balance. Just now the dark side is very strong and very clear about what they want. They (the dark side) have their vision and their priorities clearly held, and also their hierarchy. They are working in many ways for us to be unable to connect with the spiral Fifth World in 2012. "In the light side everyone thinks they are the most important, that their own understandings, or understandings of their group, are the key. There is a diversity of cultures and opinions, there is competition, diffusion, and no single approach .
As Barrios sees it, the dark side works to block fusion through denial and materialism. It also works to destroy those who are working with light for the Earth at a higher level. They like the energy of the old and declining Fourth World, the materialism. They do not want change. They do not | | want the merger. They want to stay at this level, and are afraid of the next level.
The dark power of the declining Fourth World can not be destroyed or dominated. Is too strong and clear for that, and that's the wrong strategy. The darkness can only be transformed when confronted with simplicity and sincerity. This is what leads to fusion, a concept important to the world of the Fifth Sun
Barrios said the emerging era of the Fifth Sun will call attention to a very overlooked. Whereas the four traditional elements of earth, air, fire and water have dominated several times in the past, there will be a fifth element to consider in the time of the Fifth Sun: ether.
The dictionary defines ether as the rarefied element thought to fill the upper regions of space, the Heavens. The ether is a medium that permeates all space and transmits waves of energy in a wide range of frequencies, from cell phones to human auras. What is "ethereal" is related to the regions beyond earth: the heavens.
Ether-element of the Fifth Sun is celestial and lacking in material substance, but no less real than wood, wind, flame, stone or flesh.
"Within the context of ether there can be a fusion of the polarities," said Barrios. "No more darkness or light in people, but a large merger. But now the kingdom of darkness is not interested in this. They are organized to block it. They seek to unbalance the Earth and its environment that we are not ready for alignment in 2012. We need to work together for peace, and balanced with the other side. We need to take care of the Earth that feeds and shelters us. We need to put all our mind and heart to seek the unity and fusion now, to confront the other side and preserve life. "
Barrios told his audiences in Santa Fe that we are at a critical moment in world history. "We are disturbed," he said. "We can no longer play. Our planet can be renewed or ravaged. Now is the time to awaken and take action."
"We all need it. You're not here for any reason. All of us who are here now have an important purpose. This is a tough time, but special. We have the opportunity for growth, but we must be ready for this moment in history . Barrios offered several suggestions to help people walk in balance through the years ahead. "The prophesied changes are going to happen," he said, "but our attitude and actions determine how harsh or mild they are."
